Umbra Lance is a historical fantasy series by Hannah A. Finch and follows the adventures of characters in a non-magical world of kingdoms, hidden plots, and alliances bound together with found family vibes. Each book focuses on a unique story and then collected into a series.

Standalone or Series?

While the Umbra Lance series covers a large underlying plot, each book in the series, beginning with Sorrow’s Blade, covers one complete section like a standalone, i.e. there’s no major cliffhangers. Some of the books have timeline cross-overs as they focus on events happening concurrently and can spoil certain points of previous tales, so it’s best to read them in order of release.

In the future there will be a document you can view to read everything in chronological order as a tandem readathon, but at the moment, the series is arranged in perfect order for release.

What audience is Umbra Lance suitable for?

Umbra Lance is suitable for an upper YA audience (15+) and older.

Technically, the Umbra Lance series does not fit into the ‘young adult’ section by publishing standards because the protagonists aren’t teenagers—at times there are flashbacks to their teen years, but predominantly they are in their 20’s—however the content and story are perfect for older teens and adults who love rich stories full of heart and depth with none of the explicit content.

This is a no-spice (clean) series, and you will never find any explicit sexual content or swearing in any of Hannah A. Finch’s books. Some of the themes covered in this series can be considered more on the mature side, including grief and other mental health representation.
